Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI), headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, is a mission-critical communications and security technology company that designs, manufactures and sells land mobile radio (two-way portable and vehicle-mounted radios), accessories (batteries, microphones, earpieces, headsets, cables), video security cameras and analytics (Avigilon), body-worn cameras, command center software, and increasingly drone/unmanned and counter-drone systems. It serves public safety agencies, government/defense, and enterprises, with 100,000+ customers across 100+ countries. From an AGD standpoint the relevant fact is that its own products are ruggedized electronic devices (sealed, MIL/IP-rated radios and cameras) — i.e. electronics/3C-style device assembly. However, much of its physical manufacturing is outsourced to EMS providers (it sold its Penang, Malaysia plant and operations to Sanmina in 2016) and relies on third-party contract manufacturers; remaining in-house production centers on Elgin (IL), Berlin (Germany), and a video-security manufacturing hub opened in Richardson, TX in 2021. The company's most visible 'robotics/autonomous' activity is in its product line (drones, MANET, counter-drone), not in factory automation.
